Music Unpacked - Connecting schools with world class musicians
Welcome to Music Unpacked!
Unpack the music curriculum with our creative, fun and energetic expert musicians.
Music Unpacked provides performance-based workshops delivered flexibly through interactive online sessions.
Musicians Cathy, Emma and Sarah came together during the pandemic lockdown of 2020 to create a brand-new way to deliver the music curriculum to UK primary schools. Using state of the art technology, provided thanks to a generous grant from the Royal Philharmonic Society and Harriet’s Trust, Music Unpacked offers interactive concerts and workshops to schools all over the UK.
COVID-19 saw a huge percentage of the world’s population suddenly ‘working-from-home’ - even those in industries who would never have imagined their job could be virtual! Throughout the pandemic, schools were using software like Microsoft Teams to come together in classes and assemblies, even when students were isolating at home. Musicians like ourselves were using livestreams to perform and connect with our audiences from the safety of our living rooms. We decided to experiment by combining these two brand-new ways of working – recreating our tried and tested interactive live concerts online – and so Music Unpacked began to take shape.
While our idea was inspired by the need for social distance, we have discovered that the widespread adoption of new technology will enable us to massively increase our reach, empowering schools to buy in quality music education in a very cost-effective manner. Music Unpacked offers packages at differing price points to ensure our expertise can be accessed by organisations with varying budgets.
With core content inspired by the Model Music Curriculum and planned by our Qualified Teacher Sarah, each school can be provided with a package which suits their teaching plan and budget. This may range from our pre-planned, fully digital concert performed off-site for a very accessible fee, ranging up to a bespoke blend of digital and live performances with content designed in partnership with Music and Year Leads at the school, able to encompass broader curriculum topics in a creative and engaging way.
